GRADUATE WRITING & ACCOUNTABILITY STUDY GROUPS

  • Overview

The Graduate and Professional School (TGPS) in collaboration with the Academic Success Center (ASC) will be offering Graduate Writing and Accountability Study Groups. The study group meeting times will be a dedicated period of quiet sustained writing.

Goal of the Graduate Writing and Accountability Study Groups is to use the targeted time, and the presence of peers, to focus oneself for the completion of a specific writing task or assignment. Such tasks might include generation of a paper outline for a class assignment; completion of an academic reading assignment; draft writing to some specified word or page count; conducting calculations or analysis of research data, working on a part of thesis/dissertation.

The chosen task will fit the Graduate Writing and Accountability Study Group time allotment of 90 to 120 minutes. Registered graduate students will have an opportunity for one-on-one accountability consultation prior to the study group meeting time to formulate a goal and reflect on personal writing habits followed by post-consultation to discuss outcomes and progress on determined goals.

Graduate Writing and Accountability Study Groups are open to all SHSU graduate students, regardless of program or completion track and will be offered in hybrid mode (Zoom and in person).
